Pemba Game
Fishing
The Pemba Channel
is widely known, and is considered one of the world's best places for
fishing. The Pemba Channel itself is Africa's premier marlin
destination. Striped, black and blue marlin, broadbill, mako, sailfish,
tiger and other sharks, dorado, wahoo, yellowfin tuna and many other
game fish are all to be found in her azure waters.
The island itself is covered in dense
rainforest in the north and rich fertile soil where huge bananas and
mangoes grow like weeds, together with coconuts, lychees and of course
cloves. With its extremely rich species biodiversity it is an island of
considerable scientific importance.
The
rainy season comes mostly in April and May with the strongest SE winds
in June. As one progresses from July through September the periods of
strong wind decrease and those of calm increase. October and November
are usually calm similar to March but less hot with occasional rain.
