Getting to Zanzibar
About Zanzibar
As concerns domestic flights between
Tanzania's main cities and Zanzibar, Tropical Air, Coastal Aviation, Zan
Air, Precision Air, Air Tanzania and other local Companies offer a range
of scheduled flights to and from Zanzibar island. Air Tanzania flies six
times weekly between Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam on the Tanzanian
mainland, while Zan Air and Coastal Aviation have daily flights between
Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Pemba. There are direct international
connections from Zanzibar on Oman Air (via Muscat), Ethiopian Airlines
(via Addis Ababa) and Kenya Airways (via Nairobi). It takes 15 minutes
drive to Stone Town from Zanzibar International Airport which is located
in the southeast of Zanzibar Town.
There are several sea ferry companies that ply the waters between
Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam. Some of the companies include Azam Marine,
Sea Star and Sea Express. Daily ferries connect Dar es Salaam and
Zanzibar, while three ferries per week go to Pemba (via Zanzibar) from
the mainland. There are also a few ferries weekly that connect Zanzibar
and Pemba Island.
